The Days of our Lives: Griffith Uni.

We wake up at around 7-8am in the morning
and meet at the main house at 8.30am normally.
We reach sch at about 9am. Usually on time.

What we just do is just proceed with our lab work.
For now, 8 of us are split with 2 groups.
Me, Ernest, Sze Ho and Nicole are doing the DNA stuff.
Marcus, Zeya, Ben and Gerry are doing the Protein stuff.

Our lab actually looks very run down, and it is.
You will just faint when you see the laminar flow hood,
also commonly know by SCL peeps as BSC.

Door to one of our labs.

One part of our lab.
Ancient wooden shelves, cubboards. Full of chemials, reagents. Free
excess to all staff. At least they are not expired, unlike NYP ones.

This is the area where we do our gel stuff.
From gel electrophoresis, to SDS page gels.
Our supervisor Professor Bharat, he's shocking.
He touch all the EtBr stuff without gloves lah.
OMG! He transferred our BtBr Agrose gel from
the mould to the buffer reservoir with his bare
hands and he just says: "it's alright, i do it often. haha.''
Our jaws dropped.

Dr Bharat Patel is a Professor of Griffith University,
specializing in Extremophiles, with 20-30 years of
experience. I'm feel super privileged to be under
him as a attachment student.

Well, besides that our job has been quite easy.
Just do some DNA extraction, and gel electrophoresis.

We got to do anaerobic bacteria cultures last week.
Anaerobic means ''live'' in non-oxygen environments.
Here's a few pics of us preparing anaerobic media tubes,
in which we sub-culture in:-

and we use nitrogen gas to force the oxygen out of the tubes.
We also found this very odd looking goggles and
play-ed candid:-

Looking ridiculously stupid.
"YEs??"

Also, meet my new lab-mate, Ah Nest.
"YEahh. WhAat yOou wAanTt?"

One of Ah Nest favourite habits, squatting.

Another one of his favourites, Digging Gold out of his nose.

AND

.
the important pic of them all.

"WHAt?"
Sze Ho FIERCE SIA!!!

Well, there are times we reach our labs and no one is
free or there to open the labs for us to enter, which is
rather irritating. And we just wait outside, exploring
and stuff. and maybe take a early morning nap.

"ZZZzzz... ZZZZ..."

"I tell you lor.. HE everytime ZZzzzzz.."

"See! Still Zzzz.."

"*Doing aerobics* 1, 2, 3, 4. 2, 2, 3, 4"

----------------------------------------------------

The winds are so strong recently, plus the increasing
coldness. BBBBBUUUUUURRRRRRrrrrrrr.......
I must at least wear 2 shirts and a jacket to feel slightly
warm.
And in 2 days time, Haz, which marcus calls Jihad,
seriously dunno why, is moving out and Nest and Zeya
are moving in. Yeah!
I'm seriously sick of the kebabs in Griffith Uni.
Have been eating kebabs for nearly 2 weeks already.
-puke- *readers please insert a disgusting puke sound.
I've manged to think of what to da pao for lunch for two
days though. Olive fried rice, fried bee hoon with indian
spiced chicken. Then i'm totally out of what to bring next.
Any suggestions?

I miss my Chicken Rice, Bar Chor Mee, Roti Prata,
Beef Noodles... MANY MANY MORE!!! ARGH!!!!
Can send one fedex it over to me here... ARGH@!!!

More to come...
